Both were from the Huonville region of Tasmania. Lila had 3 children named Maude, Joe and Mons McGuinness. Phil Woods was their step-father. Phil suffered in later years as a result of the war and died quite young. He worked as a hand on properties around Charleville such as Elvandale near Wyandra, and Lila performed domestic duties. Lila took-on the license of the 27-Mile Hotel on the Augathella Road for a period in 1939. That was short-lived due to Phil’s illness and death the same year. Died 17 August 1939 at Charleville, Qld. as a result of Pulmonary Tuberculosis Aged 48 years

Married Grace Downie in 1919 and died in his 80th year on 25th May 1969. His ashes are interred at the AIF soldier's wall at Cornelian Bay Cemetery, Hobart.
