MAXFIELD, Charles Ernest
He was admitted here on 3/9/1916 and died 4/9/1916 and buried the same day.
There was no operation and he must have died from sheer shock of his serious wound and would therefore have very little pain and would be scarcely be conscious. His grave is in the British Military Cemetery at Contay and the number is 22A. Plot 1. The cemetery is beautifully situated on the slope of a small hill and a cross has been erected at the head of the grave with his name and other items of identification. The map reference sheet is 57 D. V 27. C 64.
It will be a mournful satisfaction to his relatives to know that there are men to look after the graves and to keep them in repair and to know that he was laid to rest "in the pure and certain hope of resurrection to eternal life" with other brave men, who like himself, lost his life in the path of duty and honour and for King and Empire,
