Launceston Examiner 19 July 1915:
"IN THE TRENCHES."
Poor George Williams, of Sheffield, fell before the eyes of his com- rades with a bullet through the brain, Jack Bailley and Tas. Webster, both of Launceston, met with similar fates. The end of all three of these "C" squadron men was merciful, seeing that they suffered no pain, but it was sad withal, and the bereaved friends at home have the most sincere sympathy of the comrades in the 3rd Light Horse of the three heroes who have given all they had for their country's weal.
WEEKLY COURIER MAIL - 5 AUG 1915, page 24
"Lance Cpl. George Williams of Wilmot killed in action. Was the first man from his district to send in his name for enlistment and also the first Tasmanian Light Horseman to lay down his life for the Empire. He leaves a widow and 3 children. Mrs. Williams before her marriage was Miss Maggie Richards a popular singer on the North West Coast."
